Birchfield Community Primary School was established in 1974 and is a co-educational day school for pupil’s aged 4-11. The school has approximately 370 pupils on roll.
The local education authority maintains a planned admission limit for the school, the current limit being 60 places for Year R, Year 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 is 60 to ensure the school follows the new government’s requirement of maximum class sizes of 30 children in Key Stage 1. If the number of children requiring admission exceeds the number of places available then preference will be given to children:
1. Children with a statement of Special Educational Needs (SEN which names the school)
2. Children looked after (children in the care of the Local Authority) and whose care is currently being considered at an address within the catchment area.
3. Children living in the catchment area, with an older sibling at the school at the time of admission, and who live at the same address.
4. Children living in the catchment area.
5. Children living outside the catchment area, with an older sibling at the school at the time of admission, and who live at the same address.
6. Children living outside the catchment area, but nearest to the school.
The Local Education Authority lays down the above criteria.
Our school has recently undergone a major refurbishment with 5 new classrooms being built and the rest of the school being redesigned, renovated and decorated. We now have buildings that we can justly be very proud of.
Parents are encouraged to take an interest in both academic and social activities. Opportunities are given twice a year for parents to discuss their child’s work and progress with the class teacher. Written reports covering progress in all subjects, absence etc. will be given to parents annually. Internal records are also kept which monitor progress. These are passed on from one teacher to the next as the child progresses through the school or from school to school. Educational research shows that the more interest parents show in their child’s work, the better that child will do. If at any time you feel it necessary to discuss your child’s work then a cordial invitation is extended for you to do so. In such cases contact the class teacher direct. (Please choose a convenient time: - e.g. after 3.15pm from Tuesday - Friday). With more personal problems the Head is able to see parents who contact the school office. Please do not liaise with teaching staff during lesson time. Any messages may be passed to the teacher through the School Secretary:
