Medicine in school

Whenever possible, medicine should be given at home as there are obvious dangers if medicines are brought to school.  Parents need to make arrangements for an adult to come to school at the relevant time, alternatively medication can be given by staff if written confirmation is given by parents to allow their child to administer his/her own medicine.  All medication needs to be clearly marked with the child’s name and dosage required. The relevant form is available from the School Office.

All children prior to commencing schooling undergo medical examinations, by the child’s family doctor. The School Health Service has a statutory responsibility to provide a health service to the school child. The Health programme aims to identify problems that may influence a child’s well being. Regular vision, dental and medical checks are carried out and we offer health promotion and advice. The school nurse is available to meet parents who have particular concerns.
