Organisation

The school is organised by age on a class basis, the children spending much, if not all of the day, with their class teachers.  We aim to keep classes to not more than 30 children in Key Stage 1 and 30 children in Key Stage 2. Sizes of all classes range between 26 and 30 children.  Classes are organised in groups so that each child may progress at its own pace.  Thus the above average child may move on quickly, whilst the slower learner may move ahead more cautiously.  To support this at Key Stage 2, the children are set for Mathematics so for this subject, children may work with a teacher who is not their class teacher.  Exceptionally able children may join the year group above them for the subjects at which they are especially good.  The teacher as part of the child’s progress through the curriculum would initially identify these children.  Within the class there may be a variety of activities taking place at any one time, though usually not more than two or three.

Teaching staff meet together regularly with their co-ordinator to discuss the delivery of the curriculum to their children and other related matters.  Each co-ordinator is responsible for the pastoral welfare of all the children in the age group.
