Computing
Computing is when we learn to program and control electrical devices.
At Birchfield, our aim is to provide a high-quality computing education which equips children to use computational thinking and creativity to understand and make an impact on the world. The curriculum will teach children key knowledge about how computers and computer systems work, and how they are designed and programmed. All children will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of computational systems of all kinds, whether or not they include computers. By the end of the journey at Birchfield, children will have gained the key knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the computing curriculum:
KS1
Computer science – Children are given the opportunity to create and debug simple programs.
Information technology – Children are taught how to use a range of different technology purposefully.
Digital Literacy – Children are shown how Computing can be used beyond school. They are taught how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
KS2
Computer science – Children are given the opportunity to design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, as well as being able to use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs. They are taught how to explain how algorithms work and to be able to correct errors.
Information technology – Children are taught how to use different search technologies effectively. They are given the opportunity to be able to use and combine a variety of software.
Digital Literacy - Children will explore different networks and learn all about how the internet works. They are taught how to use technology safely, respectfully and responsibly.
