Design and Technology

Design and Technology is when we learn to test, develop and construct a product.

Our D.T curriculum will develop imaginative thinking in children to enable them to talk about what they like and dislike when designing and making. It will enable children to talk about how things work, and to draw and model their ideas. Throughout this curriculum children will be encouraged to select appropriate tools and techniques for making a product, whilst following safe procedures. Their knowledge and skills will build in small steps over time.

We believe in designing for a purpose and our curriculum has been carefully created with this in mind. Our construction units all look for the children to design and create to solve a problem or for a clear purpose. During their time with us, they will design and create toys, sails with moving parts, puppets, gliders and bridges. Our textile units are similar in their focus on relevant purpose, also exploring puppets and masks before creating phone cases and leavers pillowcases. In food and nutrition, our children focus on savoury and sweet dishes in alternation, making dishes from salads to cakes, before building to the creation of a 3-course meal in Year 6's Come Dine with Me project.
