Music
Music is when we learn to sing, compose and play different styles of music.

At Birchfield, we have developed our music curriculum in order to provide all of our children high quality music education which will engage and inspire our children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians, and so increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement. Throughout their learning journeys, children will develop resilience as they are challenged appropriately and will develop a critical engagement with music, allowing them to compose, and to listen with discrimination to the best in the musical canon.
We are super proud of our additional instrument lessons here at Birchfield. In addition to our whole class music lessons, children can choose to have small group and individual instrument lessons. We currently have children learning the guitar and drums. We have a music is for all approach and support all children to learn instruments of their choosing. These lessons are taught by independent music tutors and are delivered on a weekly basis.
All children learn to play a brass instrument with Somerset Music in Year 4.
All children here at Birchfield also learn to play the ocarina in Year 1 and Year 2 before progressing to the recorder from Year 3 through to the end of year 6.
