PSHE and RSHE
Personal, Social and Health Education and Relationship, Sex and Health Education are when we learn about ourselves and our relationships with others.
At Birchfield, we believe our children need to be provided with the knowledge that will enable them to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships and to build their self-efficacy into adulthood. Children can also put this knowledge into practice as they develop the capacity to make sound decisions when facing risks, challenges and complex contexts: supporting our children to develop resilience and have a mission possible attitude to learning. High quality, evidence-based and age-appropriate teaching of these subjects can help prepare pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. Throughout our PSHE and RSHE curriculums, we include sufficient well-chosen opportunities and contexts for our children to embed new knowledge so that it can be used confidently in real life situations.
Our PSHE curriculum is broken down into key areas that form half-termly focus points for us: Health and Wellbeing, Relationships and Living in the Wider World. These have been adapted from the 'Life' scheme of work produced by Twinkl. These also link with our teaching and promotion of British Values.
Our RSHE lessons have also been created using the 'Life' scheme of work produced by Twinkl. We have carefully considered when and how to teach RSHE to our children, ensuring appropriate content is delivered in an age-appropriate and scientific way. If you would like more information about the RSHE curriculum or wish to access the teaching materials, please contact the office and we will happily arrange this for you.
