Attendance

As a school we believe that good attendance plays a vital role in children progressing well with their education. It has been shown that poor attendance can have an adverse effect on children’s education and set bad habits for later life in both secondary school and work.

We therefore expect children to attend every available session unless they are unwell or have completed a Request for Absence Form in advance. If the request is for a medical appointment, then we will require sight of either the appointment card or letter from the medical professional.

If your child is unwell and not able to attend, you should ring the school office on 01935 427609 before 9.00am and provide details of their illness.

Government guidelines instruct us to only authorise absences for exceptional circumstances. There is no automatic right for pupils to be granted authorised absences for family holidays. If families take time out of school for a holiday, then we may request that a Penalty Notice be issued. This is issued to each parent or carer of each child that has been absent for the holiday, for a family of 2 children this could amount to £240 rising to £480 if not paid within 21 days. If this is not paid then it could lead to prosecution.
