Year Group News:
Welcome to the Year One page!
I would like to welcome you to the Year 1 page! On this part of our website you will find lots of information about our topics and some key information about life in Year 1.
In the morning, the children are coming into class via their cloakroom door. There will be an adult close by and if you have any questions or information to share, please approach them at this time.
We are looking forward to a new and exciting term with the children!
In Year 1 we start our day with Little Wandle Letters and Sounds, followed by reading, English and Maths, and in the afternoon we have our topic lessons. So it is a very busy day!
Helpful Reminders...
PE
1WE is on a Monday afternoons.
1JW is on Wednesday afternoons.
Please ensure your child comes dressed in their school P.E. Kit. This consists of black or navy shorts/tracksuit bottoms, plain black trainers and a plain white or green coloured t-shirt. Earrings must be removed (or covered) on PE days.
- Ensure your child brings in their water bottle daily and it is clearly labelled with their name.
- Please make sure that your child's uniform is clearly labelled with their full name.
- Fruit is available daily but feel free to send your child in with a healthy snack if they prefer their own.
- A phonics book will be allocated to your child and will be sent home every Wednesday. Please send this back into school by the following Wednesday, so we can allocate another one to them. Also, please sign the reading log and add in any additional comments. The expectation is that your child reads their book every week. They will also choose a sharing book to be read to them.
Remember to check the schools Facebook page for regular updates.
Autumn Term
What we are learning:
We are passionate about reading!
Developing reading is a key priority in Year 1. This essential skill is developed through phonics and discussion about the text. Reading at home at least 3 times per week is strongly encouraged and makes a significant difference to children's progress. Ending the day with a bed-time story is a great opportunity for parents and carers to enrich their children's vocabulary and share a joyful experience together. Regular reading will also help them to make their way up the Rainbow Reader system!
