Welcome to the Spring Term in Year 2

We are delighted to welcome you back to Year 2 and are looking forward to an exciting term ahead. 

We are looking forward to an exciting Spring term. We are beginning a new topic which focuses on the work of  artist Giuseppe Arcimboldo, throughout the term we will be looking at his work and trying to recreate some of our masterpieces. In English we will be reading and sharing lots of exciting pirate themed stories, learning about real pirates including those who originated from this area; Edward Teach and William Dampier. 

 

In this section we will keep you updated with any additional information you may find helpful.  

P.E

PE will take place on Tuesdays for 2LA and Thursdays for 2JR. Your child will be required to arrive at school on their PE day in their school PE kit. This includes trainers, a P.E shirt and black bottoms. A plain, ideally black, jumper may also be appropriate as the weather turns colder. Additionally, long hair should be tied up and jewellery removed.

 

Homework

As you will now be aware we have a new reading scheme we have started in school. Children will bring home two books every Wednesday.  One of these will be a phonics book tailored specifically to individual needs.  The other is a sharing book which the children will select themselves. Please listen to your child reading the phonics book and enjoy sharing the other book together.  The sharing book can be read by the child (if appropriate) or yourselves whilst your child listens and engages with the story. We ask that children read their phonics book with an adult or older sibling at least 3 times a week and record it within the child’s reading record. All children will need their reading books and reading records in school daily and home reading progress will be recorded on our rainbow reader displays with children being reward for reading at home.
