Year Group News:
Welcome to the Summer Term in Year 2
We hope you have all had a wonderful Easter and managed to spend some quality time together with family and friends.
We are looking forward to an exciting summer term and have already begun our new topic ‘The History of Yeovil’ Throughout the term, we will be learning about the history of Yeovil, seeing how the town started in the early days and what it has now become. If you have any old photographs of stories to share with your children it would be lovely for them to share these in class.
Year Group Information:
In this section we will keep you updated with any additional information you may find helpful.
P.E
During the first half of the Spring term, PE will take place on Tuesdays for 2LA and Thursdays for 2JR. After half term both classes will swap days due to hall timetabling. Your child will be required to arrive at school on their PE day in their school PE kit. This includes trainers, a P.E shirt and black bottoms. A plain, ideally black, jumper may also be appropriate as the weather turns colder. Additionally, long hair should be tied up and jewellery removed.
Homework
Our Rainbow Reader system is in full swing now and it is lovely to see so many children progressing up the rainbow. We ask that children read with an adult or older sibling at least 3 times a week and record it within the child’s reading record. Some children are now reading fluency books that they choose themselves from the library. After reading these books a few times children can take a quiz on Accelerated Reader to test their comprehension. Tree of Life quizzes continue to take place every Friday, regular practice of number bonds and times tables will help your child progress through the levels and earn them Teachers Awards.
Below you will find the optional homework activities for the Summer term. We look forward to seeing how creative the children can be.
Here are some links to some useful sites that we use regularly.
