Welcome to Year 2

In this section we will keep you updates with any additional information you may find helpful.
PE will take place on Mondays for 2LA and Thursdays for 2JR. Your child will be required to arrive at school on their PE day in their school PE kit. This includes trainers, a P.E shirt and black bottoms. A plain, ideally black, jumper may also be appropriate as the weather turns colder. Additionally, long hair should be tied up and jewellery removed.
We LOVE reading in Year 2. Throughout the year we will run our Rainbow Reader system, rewarding children for reading at home. We ask that children read with an adult or older sibling at least 3 times a week and record it within the child’s reading record. It is helpful if children have their book and reading diary in school every day to enable us to read with them individually. Books will be collected every Friday and the number of reads will be counted and added to the Rainbow Reader display in school. Some children will already be on Accelerated Reader, others will be added to this throughout the year. We strongly recommend that a child reads their book at least 2 or 3 times before taking a quiz. Accelerated Reader quizzes can be completed throughout the day in school. If you have any queries about this, please let us know. Every Friday your child will complete a Tree Of Life quiz, which is designed to ensure children are learning to recall number facts, this starts with number bonds and builds up to times tables. In addition to these, all children have access to Numbots which is an online learning platform. You will find usernames and passwords in the front of your child's reading record.
