Year Group News:

Remember to check our school facebook page for regular updates.
What do we have to look forward to this term?
This term we will be learning all about The Romans in our History, Geography, DT and Art lessons. We will be having a visit from a Roman Soldier and having a Roman Day in school on Thursday 9th November. We will learn about what life was like for Romans in Britain, be able to place events on a timeline in chronological order and learn about the Geography of Italy. As part of our learning we will be studying the volcano Vesuvius and the city of Pompeii. We will also be finding out about using primary and secondary sources and which are most reliable to help us understand History. We will be using stories and non-fiction to help find out about the Romans during our guided reading sessions.
Home Learning Project
As part of our learning, we would like the children to complete a home learning project with the help of their families. We would like you to choose any aspect of the Romans or Italy and produce a piece of work to bring into school the week beginning 30th October. Further information about this project will follow!
Year Group Information:
Rewarding class behaviours and efforts
In class, the children are rewarded for excellent work, participation, for following the class rules and whole school values with Dojos for their house team. Teachers’ awards are celebrated weekly and count towards bronze, silver and gold badges throughout the year. Teachers awards are earnt by reaching our individual reading target, completing outstanding pieces of learning in English, Maths or Topic. Each week a pupil will be awarded the star of the week certificate.
Attendance and Punctuality
We are continuing our focus on improving attendance and punctuality as a whole school. Our morning lessons will start promptly at 9:00am following registration at 8:55am. Please ensure that your child is at school on time as they have a morning activity to start their day.
Homework
The children are asked to read at least three times a week at home. Each week the children will have some spellings to practise for a test on a Friday. We will also be asking the children to practise their times tables regularly.
P.E.
The children will have their PE session on a Monday this term. Please ensure that your child comes to school in their school PE kit. If your child is wearing stud earrings, they will need to take them out on a P.E. day or wear tape over them.
Reading:
The children will be reading independently in school, have daily Guided Reading Lessons, and the year 3 adults will listen to the children reading regularly. There will also be class books that are read to the children. Each week we will celebrate the children’s reading at home by checking their Reading Record Books. We ask that children read to an adult or older sibling at home three or more times a week and this is recorded by the adult in the Reading Record Book. Once children have finished a book, if they are reading Accelerated Reader books, they can take the online quiz in class. We will make sure the children can change their reading books during the school day.
Maths:
Timestables Rock Stars
A fantastic way for children to practice the times tables and compete against others is using the above website. A ‘little and often’ approach is the best way to help them secure these vital times table facts. Please let us know if you need reminding of logon and password details.
